In a statement, Goobit AB says it has hired dedicated full-time heads of compliance, anti-money laundering and risk, after Finansinspektionen rejected its MiCA licence application. The company is now preparing a formal response to the regulator.

"We take Finansinspektionen's comments extremely seriously. Against this background, we have carried out a comprehensive strengthening of our organisation and our lines of defence in the work against money laundering and terrorist financing. This includes, among other things, a significant expansion of full-time resources within the AML, Compliance and Risk functions, with the aim of further strengthening governance, control and regulatory compliance"
Christian Ander, CEO of Goobit Group AB, in the statement
According to the statement, Goobit has established three separate full-time functions within Goobit AB, the regulated subsidiary in the Goobit group behind the consumer brand BTCX: a Chief Compliance Officer, an MLRO (money laundering reporting officer) and a Risk Manager. According to the company, this represents a significant strengthening of its independent control functions.
The background, Goobit says, is that Finansinspektionen rejected the company's application for a MiCA licence. MiCA is the EU's regulatory framework for crypto assets, which requires crypto companies seeking to operate in the EU/EEA to obtain approval from a national regulator.
Goobit writes in the statement that it is now working to finalise a formal response to Finansinspektionen, aimed at addressing the specific issues the regulator identified as grounds for the rejection. As part of this, the company says it will submit supplementary explanations and documentation regarding the issues, as well as account for the organisational measures it has implemented.
Goobit describes the dialogue with the regulator during the process, in the statement, as valuable for its continued work.
According to the statement, Goobit will keep the market informed as significant progress is made in the process with Finansinspektionen.
