Goobit / BTCX has for months discussed an upcoming MiCA licence and international expansion. Sweden's Financial Supervisory Authority confirms to Kaupr that the application is still under review.

Under MiCA, crypto companies need an approved licence (CASP) from a national supervisor to offer services across the EU/EEA. The transition period ended on 30 June, and the requirement has applied in full since 1 July. Goobit / BTCX, the Swedish Bitcoin exchange, has for the past six months discussed MiCA preparations as part of a broader growth strategy. According to Sweden's Financial Supervisory Authority (FI), the company's application is nonetheless still not finalised.
On Wednesday at lunchtime, FI published a press release on the MiCA transition period. According to the release, Safello has received MiCA approval directly from FI, while 77 companies licensed in other EU countries are entitled to offer services to Swedish customers on that basis. Two companies applied and were rejected: QB Europe, part of the Valuno group, and Ijort Invest, part of the GreenMerc group. Both have appealed the decision and may continue parts of their operations in the meantime, pending a court ruling. FI specified that the figures in the release were updated as of 30 June 2026.
Goobit / BTCX is not mentioned in FI's press release, either as approved or rejected. It was only when Kaupr contacted FI's information department on Wednesday afternoon that the real status became clear.
"Their application is still under assessment," the information department at FI writes in an email, in response to a question from Kaupr.
On Thursday, Ander posted an update on X. "For clarity: @BTCXsweden submitted our application to Finansinspektionen on time. We continue to operate fully under the Swedish transitional rules while our application is under review, until it is finally determined. No changes for our customers. Business as usual, with the same high standards of security and service," Ander writes.
This means that despite the deadline for receiving a MiCA licence having passed on 30 June, Sweden's Financial Supervisory Authority is still processing the application from Goobit / BTCX. It means Goobit / BTCX is currently operating without MiCA approval, while the company actively communicates about European growth and international ambitions in posts, including on LinkedIn.
In late February, Goobit founder Christian Ander appeared on Kaupr TV and announced a consolidation and M&A strategy for the Nordic crypto market, ahead of what he then called full MiCA implementation. Ander pointed to international exchanges such as Coinbase, Bybit and Binance increasingly turning their attention to the Nordics, and noted that Goobit / BTCX's nearly 15-year history in the market gave the company a unique position.
In mid-June, Kaupr reported that Goobit is awaiting MiCA approval as losses widen, after the company presented an annual report for the past 12 months. Read the story here.
