The Swedish FSA rejected Goobit Group's (BTCX) MiCA license application on July 1. In a statement, management calls it a disappointment and considers an appeal, emphasizing that operations continue as normal while reviewing the decision.

Goobit / BTCX is led by CEO Christian Ander.
The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen) rejected the application from Goobit Group AB for a license under the EU’s new crypto framework, MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets), on July 1. The company behind BTCX, one of the world's oldest active bitcoin-only exchanges, explicitly states that the decision is a heavy disappointment.
Nearly every employee across the group has dedicated significant time and effort to aligning with the stricter European regulatory landscape. In an official statement, the company emphasizes that they are now thoroughly analyzing the reasoning behind the decision and evaluating all alternatives.
Despite the setback, the tone from the Swedish crypto pioneer remains resilient in their latest communication. Having operated in the market for 15 years, the company has faced severe regulatory and operational roadblocks before.
In a personal message, the Goobit leadership highlighted historic examples of the resistance they have encountered:
"Receiving letters from the bank stating that the company's accounts will be closed in a few days, without giving a reason or leaving any room for discussion... That happened three times during the first 10 years. Looking back, you sometimes wonder why we didn't just give up."
However, the firm makes it clear to the market that giving up is simply not in their DNA. Describing themselves as industry veterans, they vow to keep fighting—for their shareholders, their customers, and their unwavering belief that Bitcoin will play a vital role in the future of finance and society as a whole.
Goobit Group clarifies in its statement that the daily operations of BTCX are not directly affected by the ongoing process, and services will remain fully accessible to customers as usual. The company's core ambition to operate within a clearly regulated European framework stands firm, and a formal appeal against the rejection is highlighted as the most probable path forward in the near term.
