FirstBlock-athon takes place in Stockholm from 7 to 11 September. Applications are now open.
The blockathon running during Stockholm's tech week in September is taking shape. A hackathon is a time-limited event where developers and founders build working solutions to set problems within a few days, and here the format is spread across four days in September. The consultancy FirstBlock is behind the event, which is called FirstBlock-athon.
There are two routes in. One is to apply as a founder with a startup, a product or a pitch, and be assessed for the programme itself. The other is to register as a participant without a pitch — no company and no application required, just sign-up.
Applications are open, and the organiser says they have started coming in. Only a limited number of teams will be selected for the programme. That gives the event two kinds of participants: those competing, and those present.
The programme runs over four days. The first two, 7 and 8 September, are given over to the building itself, hosted by Netlight at Regeringsgatan 25 in Stockholm. The event then moves to Kungsträdgården at Jussi Björlings allé, where teams present their work to the jury on Demo Day on 10 September, before the awards close the week the following day.
Splitting build days from showcase days gives teams a concentrated development run, followed by two separate occasions to present the result — first to the jury, then to a wider audience.
Participants are given problem statements based on actual business opportunities across several sectors, and are supported by mentors and industry experts throughout. The purpose the organiser describes is to make AI and blockchain solve concrete problems rather than simply demonstrate technology.
FirstBlock-athon forms part of what FirstBlock calls its Impact series, and is held as part of Nordic Tech Week 2026.
The programme is not yet complete. Further partners, mentors and sponsors are to be announced in the weeks leading up to September. For anyone weighing an application, that means the picture of what the event actually offers is still being filled in.
