The EBC12 Startup Battle is the pitch competition held at the European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona on 16 and 17 September. Twelve early-stage digital asset companies have been selected for the final, where they present their businesses on stage to investors and industry figures. Three of the twelve are based in the Nordics and the Baltics. Last year's Startup Battle was won by Sweden's Deploi.

Kryptos wants to be the data layer in crypto finance

Sweden's Kryptos describes itself as a data layer for crypto finance. The starting point it points to is that information about crypto trading sits scattered across exchanges, wallets, blockchains and DeFi protocols, each with its own format. Kryptos gathers and standardises this into a single structure.

For individuals the company provides portfolio tracking and tax reporting, for enterprises a back office that maps transactions to the chart of accounts, and for developers an interface that pulls data from a large number of chains, exchanges and protocols in one format. The company reports more than 40,000 users and over 100 institutions across more than 35 countries.

Kryptos names YZi Labs, Binance Labs, Gate.io Labs and Blockchain Founders Fund as investors. It will present live on stage alongside eleven other finalists, and describes the selection as confirmation of what the team has built so far.

Lympid wants to cut the cost of issuing securities

Lympid, based in Vilnius, builds infrastructure for issuers looking to digitise and distribute regulated financial products. The premise it works from is that issuing and distributing securities in Europe is slow and expensive. The product is sold as a single package in which Lympid handles both the legal and the technical side, with the client's own brand on the front.

The company says clients can reach the market in weeks rather than months, at around ten per cent of the cost of a traditional setup. Distribution runs through an interface to neobanks and brokers, and to an investor network Lympid puts at more than 3,300 KYC'd investors.

It reports more than ten products in the market, from real estate to show-jumping horses, and total transaction volume above ten million euros. The figures are the company's own.

&Volume wants to steer where capital goes

&Volume, from Finland, describes itself as a risk and allocation layer for on-chain finance, operating above fragmented crypto markets. The company aims to help institutions decide where capital should be allocated, how risk should be controlled and when capital should move. Its first application is what it calls autonomous treasuries for start-ups, meaning systems that manage the company's cash without ongoing manual oversight.

The company was founded in 2025 by graduates of the University of Edinburgh and says it has received grants from Google, Microsoft, Amazon and OpenAI. The wider team has experience from 1inch, Binance, Deutsche Bank and Jane Street, according to the company, and &Volume lists partnerships with the exchanges Binance, Bybit and OKX.

Three companies selling to other companies

None of the three Nordic and Baltic finalists is aimed primarily at ordinary end users. Kryptos sells data and accounting records, Lympid sells issuance, and &Volume sells risk management — all to companies and institutions that will themselves build or run something on a blockchain.

Kryptos does also have an offering for individuals, with portfolio tracking and tax reporting, but describes itself as a data layer and points its developer product at others building financial services.
