Goobit launches bitcoin and gold saving on a Finnish licence

Goobit is launching Futureproof, a savings platform for bitcoin, gold and interest-bearing assets. The services requiring authorisation are provided by Finland's Kvarn Capital, so the launch does not hinge on Goobit's own MiCA application.

"Futureproof is an important step in Goobit's development. We have spent fifteen years helping people buy their first Bitcoin. The harder question has always been what to do the day after, and that is what Futureproof answers."

Gustav Buder, CEO of Goobit Group AB

Goobit Group AB (publ) is headquartered in Stockholm and runs the bitcoin business BTCX, launched in 2011. Its own application for authorisation under MiCA was refused by Sweden's financial supervisory authority, Finansinspektionen, on 2 July this year, and the refusal has been appealed. The company is now launching a new product in which the parts requiring authorisation are supplied by another operator.

Kvarn Capital supplies what requires authorisation

Goobit's wholly owned subsidiary Goobit Blocktech AB has entered into an agreement with Kvarn Capital Ltd. Kvarn is a Finnish company authorised as a crypto-asset service provider, or CASP, supervised by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority, FIN-FSA. The authorisation is passported across the EEA, including Sweden, meaning it applies across borders without a fresh application in each country.

Kvarn provides order execution, custody and transfer of crypto-assets under its own authorisation. Goobit handles product design, brand, customer experience and distribution. The partnership rests on what Kvarn calls a grey-label model, under which Goobit offers regulated crypto services under its own brand while the customers using those services are Kvarn's clients. Kvarn provides neither investment advice nor portfolio management under the partnership.

"Partnerships in which each party operates strictly within its own regulatory perimeter are, in our view, the right model for the Nordic market," says Joonas Järvinen, founder of Kvarn Capital, in the press release.

Gold and interest sit outside the authorisation

Only the crypto component of the product is covered by Kvarn Capital's CASP authorisation. The gold component is intended to be supplied by Kvarn Metals Ltd, a company in the same group, and falls outside the authorisation.

The interest-bearing component also sits outside Kvarn Capital's authorisation and is intended to come from a separate partner. The press release does not name that partner.

The launch does not hinge on Goobit's own application

Goobit applied in September 2025 for authorisation as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA. Finansinspektionen refused the application on 2 July 2026. The company requested reconsideration and appealed the decision on 23 July. The appeal is still under way.

The company's own assessment is that the planned commercial launch of Futureproof is therefore not dependent on the outcome of the MiCA process. An authorisation of its own remains part of Goobit's long-term regulatory strategy, and BTCX continues to operate and serve its customers while the case is heard.

From bitcoin trading to long-term saving

Goobit's business has its roots in BTCX, one of the early participants in the Swedish bitcoin market. More than 250,000 customers have opened an account with BTCX since the start.

Futureproof is intended to complement BTCX, which continues as a separate product, and will be offered to existing BTCX customers. With it, Goobit broadens its offering from bitcoin trading and exchange to also cover long-term saving in which several asset classes are combined in one portfolio. In a first step the platform is aimed at private individuals, with an offering for companies planned later.

Fixed target weights and customer-approved adjustments

Futureproof combines bitcoin, gold and interest-bearing assets in one portfolio. The customer picks one of three ready-made compositions with fixed target weights and sets the amount. The allocation is governed by rules fixed and known in advance, and the platform makes no decisions of its own about the customer's savings.

When market movements push an asset's share away from its target weight, Futureproof calculates an adjustment and shows it to the customer. The customer approves every change before it is carried out.

A prototype has been built and development of the technical platform is under way. According to the company's preliminary timetable, a beta is due in October 2026 and commercial launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. The waitlist opened on Monday at futureproof.money.
