Finansinspektionen rejects Goobit AB's MiCA application

Goobit announces that Finansinspektionen has rejected the company's application for authorisation as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA. The company is evaluating the path forward for Goobit and its crypto exchange BTCX.

July 2, 2026

According to a statement from the company, Goobit is currently analysing the decision and its implications, and is evaluating available courses of action, including the possibility of appealing the decision.

"We note Finansinspektionen's decision and will now analyse it carefully. Goobit and BTCX have since our founding in 2011 built our business on regulatory compliance, customer protection and long-term trust. Our ambition to operate within a clearly regulated European framework remains, and we will now evaluate our regulatory and strategic options. Regardless of the outcome of this decision, our work to develop BTCX as a serious Nordic operator within Bitcoin and financial services continues," says Christian Ander, CEO of Goobit Group AB.

MiCA is putting pressure on the industry

MiCA requires anyone offering crypto services in the EU/EEA to hold authorisation from a national financial supervisory authority. The transitional arrangement that allowed existing operators to continue while awaiting approval expired on 30 June 2026. For companies that are rejected or fail to gain approval in time, the consequence can be that operations must pause or be restructured until a new application or appeal succeeds.

Goobit Group and BTCX have had a presence in the Nordic bitcoin market since 2011.
