On Friday night, Donald Trump launched his very own cryptocurrency, a so-called “memenoin” named $Trump, and less than 48 hours later, his wife, Melania Trump, followed suit with $Melania, and then the crypto market went completely haywire.

But according to crypto analyst Mads Eberhardt, it's an expression of desperation and highly problematic that the president is now making money from crypto — even if it's not illegal.
