Coinmotion offers buying, selling and custody of crypto assets to retail and institutional clients in Finland and Sweden, and according to K33 is the largest MiCA-licensed crypto broker in the two countries. K33 AB (publ) is listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market and offers trading, custody and research. The partnership covers institutional execution, meaning the carrying out of larger buy and sell orders. Both companies are authorised under MiCA, the EU's common rulebook for crypto services.

Splitting the work between platform and trading

Under the agreement, Coinmotion keeps the client relationship and the platform, while K33 provides the capacity to execute the trades. According to the announcement, this strengthens Coinmotion's offering for clients trading in larger volumes.

"By combining Coinmotion's client platform with K33's institutional execution capabilities, we strengthen our offering while allowing each company to keep focusing on what it does best," says Antti-Jussi Suominen.

He describes the partnership as a natural example of how regulated specialists can work together.

MiCA makes partnerships easier, says K33

Torbjørn Bull Jenssen points to the common rulebook as a precondition for agreements of this kind.

"Both companies have spent years with a strong focus on compliance, security and client service. MiCA creates a common regulatory framework that makes these partnerships easier, allowing specialised providers to collaborate and ultimately deliver better outcomes for clients," he says.

The companies expect partnerships between specialised, regulated firms to become more important as the European crypto market develops under MiCA. The point is that not every provider needs to have every capability in-house.

Another step for K33's institutional trading

For K33, the agreement is another step in expanding its institutional execution business. The company says it is targeting regulated financial institutions and crypto service providers across Europe.
