Both Blockchain Sweden's round table on tokenisation and the Blockathon hackathon were part of Nordic Tech Week in Stockholm this week. On Wednesday morning, the industry gathered around the table at Blockchain Sweden to discuss tokenisation, meaning the representation of assets such as securities as digital tokens that can be owned and transferred on a blockchain. On Thursday, Blockathon took the main stage. Kaupr attended both.

Banks, entrepreneurs and the regulator around one table

Blockchain Sweden organised the round table on the morning of Wednesday 9 September, hosted by Eversheds Sutherland. Around 30 people took part.

Around the table sat banks, infrastructure players, technology providers, advisers, many entrepreneurs and people with legal and regulatory backgrounds. Sweden's financial supervisory authority, Finansinspektionen, also took part in the discussion.

Live production on the agenda

The question on the table was deliberately ambitious: what would it take for one major Swedish financial institution to run tokenised securities in live production by the end of 2027, not as a pilot or proof of concept? And who in the room has a role in making that happen?

Tommy Andorff of Neuro by Trust Anchor Group shared practical experience of tokenisation from start to finish, with numerous real-world examples. Tobias Lipfert of d-fine brought experience from concrete projects and a wider European perspective, including on why Germany is ahead of Sweden.

Blockathon on the main stage

Blockathon is a hackathon on the use of blockchain technology, running all week from Monday 7 to Friday 11 September. On Thursday 10 September, the hackathon took the Nordic Tech Week main stage with a demo session, followed by a closed jury session. FirstBlock and its founder Fati Hakim are behind the hackathon, and Kaupr is media partner.

Around 25 people have worked on the project. Ten ecosystem partners and four core partners stand behind the event. In addition, more than 10 jury members and several mentors have supported the builders along the way.

On Friday, the winner of Blockathon will be revealed at an award ceremony in Kungsträdgården in central Stockholm. The winner receives SEK 10,000 in credits from Amazon Web Services.
