Crypto exchange Bitpanda is now available in ChatGPT's plugin directory, and lets AI assistants place orders through its own MCP server. Danish Coop Bank does the same for investment customers, without access to trade or move money.

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude pull data from and carry out actions in external services, without each service having to build its own integration for every AI model. Within the same week, both a European crypto platform and a Danish bank have adopted the standard to give customers access to their accounts through AI assistants.
Crypto exchange Bitpanda is now available in ChatGPT's plugin directory. Users log in, choose what ChatGPT may access, and can then ask about their holdings in crypto, stocks, funds and precious metals in plain language, according to Bitpanda. The app is read-only by design: it explains, it doesn't trade, the company writes in a LinkedIn post.
For those who want to go further than asking, the Austrian crypto exchange's own MCP server lets AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor also place orders, within permissions the user sets themselves. "A year ago, that meant exporting a CSV, opening a spreadsheet and losing an evening. Today you can type it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and get an answer from your real Bitpanda account in seconds," Bitpanda writes in a post on X, calling the MCP server the clearest look yet at where finance is going.
Coop Bank Investering is the first bank in Denmark to offer investment customers an MCP connection, according to Kristian Mikkelsen, COO at Coop Bank, in a LinkedIn post. Customers can connect their account to ChatGPT or Claude and ask questions about their own investments, such as how much dividend they have received this year, or set a price alert. The customer chooses whether to create the connection, and can remove it at any time.
Neither Bitpanda nor Coop Bank lets the AI assistant trade or move money on its own. At Coop Bank, it is not possible to trade or move money through the connection, and the answers do not count as investment advice from the bank. Bitpanda goes further in its disclaimer: the company is always the user's sole counterparty, all orders are settled by Bitpanda itself, and the MCP server connects a third-party AI assistant to the account — not a Bitpanda advisor. The assistant acts only on the user's explicit instructions, and Bitpanda writes that the company is not responsible for outcomes from unclear or misconfigured prompts or permissions; the user is solely responsible for reviewing and authorising every instruction.
