Opening the Doors to Crypto Insights: The Norwegian Tax Administration Invites All-Day Seminar

The Norwegian Tax Administration continues its open dialogue on crypto with a full-day seminar on October 28, open to the public and chaired by Tax Director Nina Schanke Funnemark. The goal is knowledge sharing and understanding in a rapidly evolving field.

October 27, 2025

The Norwegian Tax Administration continues its strategy of transparency and information sharing on crypto, most recently through the open full-day seminar at Mesh Youngstorget on October 28. “The crypto field is in great development and we need to keep up with this development. In addition, we want to facilitate knowledge sharing across borders,” says Marius Johansen, subject responsible for crypto currencies in the Norwegian Tax Administration. He points out that this year's seminar is broadly composed both thematically and academically, extending from recent developments to the prevention of cryptocurrency fraud.

Focus on transparency and information

For several years, the Norwegian Tax Administration has focused on information, among other things, to get more people to correctly state their crypto holdings in their tax returns. “Our goal is to make it easy to do it right, for the good of both the Tax Administration, society and the individual taxpayer,” Marius Johansen said in an interview with Kaupr last year.

Competence building internally

Skills building is also central. The Tax Agency's annual internal seminar on crypto for its own employees, and now the public full-day seminar, contributes to strengthened insights across sectors. “Crypto is here to stay” was the opening line last year from one of the Tax Administration's own initiators on last year's internal seminar, where editor Morten Myrstad in Kaupr was moderator for one of the days, where the Tax Administration had invited external participants.

From insights to future trends

This year's seminar will be opened by Nina Schanke Funnemark, Director of The Norwegian Tax Administration, supplemented by Odd Woxholt, Divisional Director of the Tax Administration, and Marius Johansen, subject responsible for crypto currencies. Together, they share three key knowledge — what you as a crypto user should get with you now.

The rest of the program is broad:

  • The role of the big in the digital economy
  • Crypto and the Green Transition
  • Norges Bank and digital central bank money
  • AI and blockchain
  • Bull vs. Bear: When is the hype over?
  • Crypto, KYC and Traceability: The Myth of Anonymity
  • Crypto Fraud: Threats, Tactics and Measures
  • All at stake — when crypto meets Crimea

Among the contributors you will find profiles from both banks, startups, academia and public actors. Everything flows, and the event marks Skatteetaten's active role in a public, knowledge-based conversation about the crypto field in Norway.
