Lunar becomes first Nordic bank with MICA license

The Danish challenger bank Lunar is the first Nordic bank to obtain a MICA license for crypto services. Lunar's closed crypto platform, Lunar Block, is integrated directly into the Lunar app and is available in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

Lunar reached 1 million users in March this year. a significant milestone in its mission to transform the banking experience for individuals and businesses across the Nordics. Now Lunar has reached a new milestone with its MiCA license.

Crypto platform

Lunar launched Lunar Block in 2022, a Scandinavian crypto trading platform that allows users to buy and sell cryptocurrency securely and seamlessly through the Lunar app. According to Lunar, it was designed from day one for ease of use, with clear controls and robust safeguards. The Lunar app has been available in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, with crypto trading becoming available in Norway in January this year.

Consumer protection

Lunar further writes this on its Linkedin page: “Now, with our new MiCA license, the EU’s first framework for crypto, we’re taking that commitment even further. MiCA brings the same oversight and consumer protection to digital assets as in traditional financial services.
