Today, traditional finance and the Bitcoin environment in Norway offers exciting news: Morten Søberg joins Sparebank 1 and takes up a newly created position as Secretary General of the Bitcoin Policy Institute.
In this regard, we at Kaupr have taken a video chat with Morten Søberg. As always when Morten has the floor, you should listen to him yourself — watch the video interview in about 20 minutes. But we share a few taste bits in text.
Morten tells both why he finds it exciting to join the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI), and how he wants to contribute to public awareness about money and Bitcoin, as well as promote Bitcoin in the public eye. “Intellectually challenging and an interesting civic affair” are the words he uses about the new job.
We visit Søberg's experience as a politician in various roles, and ask about his views on digital central bank money and Bitcoin as a possible reserve on Norges Bank's balance sheet. We also talk about Søberg's role as an author, both in connection with his previously published book, Svalbard Pengar, and a new book on Bitcoin reports coming this autumn.
Furthermore, we discuss how the view of Bitcoin, or the “Bitcoin narrative”, is changing, and current uses such as digital gold, art, means of payment, and more. Here Morten resorts to the Norwegian Mountain Law to find guidance...
For those who know Morten Søberg, it is hardly surprising that the phenomenon of money runs like a red thread throughout the interview.
Have a good time. Dig in.
